The Impression Equation
It’s been said that in an interview, the employer will make up his mind within the first five minutes as to whether to hire you. If you have ever read Blink (which is a great book by Malcolm Gladwell, author of The Tipping Point), you probably even have less time to make a great first impression. This is where the Impression Equation comes in. What is the Impression Equation? It is the formula that you need to follow for... (posted by Trevor 309 days ago.)

The Four Biggest Challenges Facing New Grads (Part II)
It’s one thing to be aware of the challenges that you will face as a New Grad looking for an Entry Level Job. However, you also need to know how to get past these challenges if you want to land a great position. That being said, here is some of my advice: Lack of Experience: There are three great ways to battle the lack of experience issue. First, volunteer. While it can often be... The Four Biggest Challenges Facing New Grads (Part I)
Being a New Graduate is tough. At times, it can seem like the world is against you. You feel everything from the weight of your parents expectations, to the size of your student loans, to the unspoken competition from your friends and classmates for scarce jobs. That being said, I want to outline the four major challenges that all New Grads face as they enter the job market in the hopes that I can... (posted by Trevor 309 days ago.)

The First Rule Of Networking
Networking, especially in this economy, is one of the best things that you can do for your career. There is no better way to get ahead when it comes to your job hunt. Unfortunately, I have never been a great networker. I’ve often been shy in social situations and I’ve never been very good at making small talk. One of the things that I have always struggled with is how to “start” networking. When... (posted by Trevor 309 days ago.)

The Differences Between Resumes And Cover Letters
There are two parts to the standard application package: the resume and the cover letter. Both are extremely important. Being a bit of a movie buff, I have always thought of the application package as a film. The resume itself is the full length movie, while the cover letter is the movie trailer (and if you want to keep with the theme, your transcript would be the credits). From my perspective, I... Quality vs. Quantity in Job Applications
One of the biggest things I struggled when looking for a job was how to approach the application process. Should I… Spend lots of time on each resume and cover letter, making it the absolute best it can be before sending it out? Or should I craft a decent cover letter and resume that can easily be tweaked for each job, then crank out as many as I can? Looking back on it, I would have to say...
